FAQ

What does somatics mean?

The term was created by Thomas Hanna, a philosophy professor and movement theorist. A term for a practice that focuses on the body from an internal subjective perspective.  Focusing on the mind-body connection though different modalities. Within my practice I find this component to be very valuable, elevating the experience from just a bodywork session, to a steppingstone to help you move forward on your own journey with healing.

How often should I receive a massage?

Depends on your needs! If you're coming for stress relief and relaxation, it's more of a come as you feel the need to basis. If you're looking for chronic pain management, it would be recommended to come once a week for a few weeks. Once the results are assessed, then we can move more towards bi weekly, or monthly. Really depends on you and your body's needs.

Will I be undressed during my massage and how is draping?

Absolutely depends on your comfortability, some areas of the body may need to be unclothed to get the right work done as needed. As stated before though, theres no pressure as the client and we can discuss what works best for you at the time of your appointment. When it comes to draping as well, you are completely covered other than the part of the body that the therapist is giving focus on. Ensuring you're comfortable and covered at all times during your session.

Any Reasons Manual Lymphatic Drainage wouldn't be for me?

Theres a few circumstances where MLD would be contraindicated for treatment. If you current have any blood clots, recent infections, congestive heart or renal failure, having cancer without medical clearance and any kidney disfunction. It's always in your best interest to get medical clearance before booking if any of these may be of concern.

How do I prepare for a massage or energy work?

It's recommended to not eat a heavy meal at least 2-3 hours before your session. Doing so causes bloating and could lead to discomfort or nausea lying on the table. Staying hydrated before and after your appointment is also highly recommended.
